29-year-old actor/influencer Beshoy Mehany, whose prank videos are watched by millions across social media platforms, has announced the exciting news that he will have a featured role in 2022’s $40-million Gain, a thriller about a car heist in Las Vegas. “If you knew how much I love cars, you’d know how perfect this opportunity is for me,” he says. “One of the first movies I ever saw when I came to America from Egypt was The Fast and the Furious. Wow, what an impact that made on me! I was transfixed by the story and the action, so I like that my first featured role will involve cars, too.”
Beshoy, who was born on January 7, 1992, lost his father when he was only 9 years old and says that he will be thinking of him while he’s on set. “Losing him was tough, definitely,” he says. “When he passed away, I missed him terribly. Thankfully, I found an emotional outlet when my family moved to Jersey City, where I got into acting. I think in some way it was therapeutic for me. In high school, especially, I was able to express emotions through acting that were sometimes a bit hard to release away from the stage. I spent a lot of time in the theater, learning how productions are managed and doing everything I could to become a good actor.”
The more Beshoy acted, the more his dream of having a Hollywood career grew. “I started to do some research to see what it would take, and I felt a bit deflated at first,” he says. “I may have had the ability, but that wasn’t going to be enough. To make videos, for example, I was going to need some pretty pricey equipment, and I sure didn’t have the connections to get doors to open. I faced some really steep odds.”
One night, sitting on his bed and pondering his future, a teenaged Beshoy decided to just go for it. “I didn’t care what I had to do – I was going to make it. My parents, thankfully, were behind me. They believed in my dream and encouraged me to follow it wherever it would take me.”
Beshoy first went to New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he threw himself into every acting class he could sign up for. “I eventually got my bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, but I had to take some extra classes to do it since my acting courses didn’t count,” he states.
That still left him with the question of how to stand out and attract the attention of movie studios when so many people were trying to do the same. “That led to me making prank videos in 2019,” continues Beshoy. “It’s so competitive that I needed to be unique. My videos received millions of hits on different platforms. I also worked as an extra in a lot of TV shows and movies to get more experience, always knowing that I was one step away from getting the one chance I was looking for.”
He credits his role in Gain to sheer persistence. “It’s true what they say – nothing happens overnight, especially in Hollywood,” he says. “I heard one time that only 2% of Hollywood actors are ever able to truly have a career. Think of all the insanely talented people who leave LA to pursue other professions. However, I am aiming to be one of the few who make it. I’ve got a real vision for my life: to work in films. There’s nothing else I want to do except entertain audiences with a really good story.”
