As the CEO of Maddie Girl Marketing, twenty-year-old Madison Gorn has helped clients like Target, Ulta, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Sephora to increase their sales through her company’s digital marketing campaigns. She has also worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs, who experience their own unique challenges. “I typically see new business owners either in their startup stage or perhaps when they’re a year into running their company,” she says. “Often, they’re stressed because while they love being a business leader, their product or service isn’t getting out to consumers in an effective way. It’s hurting their sales, and they’re afraid they might not make it. Creating a marketing campaign that can be the catalyst for sales is one of the best things about what I do.”

At Maddie Girl Marketing, Madison and her team offer a vast menu of services, including social media marketing, branding, email marketing, paid advertising, podcasting, content creation, influencer marketing, and more.

Her track record has cemented Madison’s reputation as an expert in digital marketing for ecommerce and retail companies, and she is offering some tips for small business leaders who would like to connect with more consumers online and enjoy similar results.

“First, make sure you know your story,” she recommends. “These days, consumers want authenticity. They want to know your ‘why.’ Why did you start the business? What was the issue or problem that you wanted so badly to solve that you had to become an entrepreneur? What are you so passionate about that you have to bring it to the world? A good digital marketing plan will include aspects of this, so be sure to bring it into your own.”

She suggests that entrepreneurs remember that “engaging” isn’t just about creating content that appeals to consumers. “Yes, of course, you want to have compelling content. You’ve only got 10 seconds to snag the interest of someone new to your site, so it’s got to make an impact. It doesn’t stop there, however. You’ve got to engage, too. I don’t recommend putting up the content, great though it may be, and leaving it at that. Someone on your staff needs to be online, talking to people who comment on your posts so that true relationships are started.”

Giving enough time for the campaign is vital. “Take, for example, the holiday season,” Madison continues. “It’s the busiest shopping season of the year, yet it’s only four weeks long. A lot of companies miss out on important sales during this time simply because they started thinking about the campaign too late. I tell my clients that the best time to start thinking about Christmas sales is January 1. You need that much time to strategize how your year is going to go, when other campaigns will be, what those will accomplish, and how all of it will lead up to the holiday season.”

She advises small business owners to create campaigns that are relevant. “The reality is that the world is full of competition. You may have a great idea and be able to grow a solid customer base. That can change at any time because the world is always moving forward. Keep track of what your competitors are doing and ask yourself what you can do to keep current so that your customers don’t go elsewhere. One way to do that is to make sure each marketing campaign focuses on the evolution of your products or services. That way, your company won’t feel static. Another way is to emphasize the value of what you offer, especially if the economy is going through a difficult time and people are unsure if they want to spend the money.”

Madison believes that the right marketing campaign can do wonders for a business. “It’s all about finding the people who will be interested in your product or service, showing them how awesome it is, and making them want to come back. Once you’ve got that down, nothing will stop you!”

Madison Gorn started Maddie Girl Cosmetics as a sophomore in high school and Maddie Girl Marketing only a few years later. Today, using her expertise in digital marketing, she works with corporations and small businesses to craft customized marketing campaigns that help them to reach their business goals.
