Why I Am Against the Super Bowl Returning to Florida
The Super Bowl will not return to the state of Florida in the future. The new mayor of Orlando has announced that he is fighting against the NFL’s Super Bowl 2020 in the state, and the reason for this is the NFL wants a new stadium built near Disney World. This is something that must be stopped. I am a Tampa Bay Area resident and I am very upset at the decision made by the current mayor of Orlando.
Human beings have a large amount of economic issues on their plate that will cause many more people to lose their jobs. Having this Super Bowl at Disney World will only push people away from Orlando into places such as Michigan or the Florida Panhandle, which are already extremely depressed. This Super Bowl is not in keeping with the economic climate of Florida. Not only are there issues with unemployment, but also the housing market is in danger of busting. The housing bubble did not burst in Florida.
When you think about the fan base of the Orlando Magic, the Tampa Bay Rays, the Carolina Panthers, and other major sporting events in Florida, there is a great fan base of college students, soccer fans, and others who do not want to deal with job security. They would rather go to Hawaii or New York.
The Bonita Amber Chief Wendell, president of the Florida State Seminoles, said that he was against the Super Bowl and said that it would increase Hurricane Irma damage and weather. That is correct, the Super Bowl is not going to affect the world in a negative way, but the negative impact it could have on Florida will be too much to overcome.
