Important Information About Mesothelioma Causes and Symptoms

Mesothelioma is caused by inhalation of cancerous fibers that are released by workers having contact with asbestos. These materials were widely used in building and construction in the past. They were resistant to heat, flame and chemicals. Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral and the fibers are resistant to heat, flame and chemicals. Inhaling the fibers can cause mesothelioma.

There are many mesothelioma causes which are related to the asbestos exposure. They are peritoneum mesothelioma (which is found in the abdomen), pericardial mesothelioma (which affects the heart) and pleural mesothelioma (which affect the lungs). Inhaled asbestos fibers cause cancer called mesothelioma.

One of the known mesothelioma causes is hereditary. If one or both of your parents developed this disease, you have a higher chance of developing it too. It runs in the family. Other known risk factors include: obesity, smoking, exertion of stress, a history of having had cancer in the lungs as well as being exposed to asbestos. By quitting smoking or reducing the amount of exertion that you are doing, you can greatly reduce your risk factors.

Two other known mesothelioma causes are exposure to mineral fibers and secondhand smoking. Miners often work with asbestos, which is why it is so common in this industry. Secondhand smoking has long been associated with certain cancers including mesothelioma. The reason for this is that asbestos contains asbestos fibres. By working around these fibres, your chances of getting mesothelioma increase.

Pericardial Mesothelioma This type of mesothelioma is also quite common. It is generally seen around the heart, chest and abdomen. Pericardial Mesothelioma causes the lining of the pericardium to change and grow abnormally. As the lining grows, fluid builds up in the sac causing a swelling and lumping of the pericardial sac.

There are many different types of mesothelioma. As previously mentioned, there is a genetic predisposition to getting this type of cancer. However, there are many other factors that contribute to you developing mesothelioma. A cancer that affects the lining of the cells in your body or even the cells within your heart is called ‘neoplastic diseases’. Not all neoplastic diseases are mesothelioma, however, which means that if you have one of the other less common forms of cancer, you may not have a mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma Causes Because it affects the cells within the mesothelium, it can cause many other changes in your body. One of the most obvious effects of mesothelioma is an increased risk of heart and lung cancer. It has also been associated with an increased risk of stroke, especially when it occurs in the pericardial area. In addition to the effects that mesothelioma has on the cells in your body, it can also affect the blood vessels surrounding the affected areas.

Mesothelioma Causes The main cause of mesothelioma is asbestos exposure. Asbestos, a naturally occurring mineral, is used in a lot of different products today. Prior, to beginning your job, find out if any of the asbestos products you were working with have been contaminated. If you suspect that you worked with it, be sure to get a medical exam and then file a claim with your employer. With the help of a lawyer, you should be compensated for your medical expenses and lost wages as a result of your illness.
