Yoga Of Immortals: Train Your Mind Like You Train Your Body

As Ishan Shivanand, Founder of Yoga of Immortals (YOI), has traveled the world, bringing YOI and its healing Vedic modalities to millions, he has made memories he will never forget. Few things stick out as prominently as the morning he glimpsed the University of Michigan’s elite football team practicing in the early hours. “I was in Michigan to meet with business leaders, and I stopped by Ann Arbor because I love visiting college campuses,” he says. “I passed by the stadium and saw these guys who looked like they could bench-press a truck. I remember just marveling at the training they must have undergone to get into such great shape, and it made me wonder what our society would be like if more people trained their minds the same way our athletes train their bodies.”

Ishan, a monk, spent the first twenty years of his life training in a monastery, where he says the emphasis each day was on using ancient yogic techniques to cultivate a strong, healthy mind. “I studied under my instructor and my father, and I learned a meditative, cognitive, mind-oriented approach to center myself and maintain inner peace no matter what experiences I encounter,” he explains. “I ultimately left the monastery because I knew so many people around the world do not have the ability to protect their minds and emotions from the pressures we all experience. I have been teaching YOI ever since to individuals and groups so that their minds become stronger.”

As Ishan has engaged with people in board rooms, prisons, businesses, schools, religious places of worship, and online, he has found that a lot of people are unaware that the mind needs to be trained like a muscle. “Let’s go back to the football example,” he suggests. “No football player is going to step onto the field without lifting weights and building up their body. They know that when they go out to play a game, they will be facing players who are heavily muscled, so if they don’t prepare, they will get creamed.”

It is no different for the mind, Ishan says. “Every day, we are confronted by responsibilities, pressures, bad news, conflicts, and other stresses that can overwhelm us if we don’t train our mind to deal with them. Can you imagine the onslaught on our minds without a buffer to protect them? You already see the results: anxiety, fear, worry, irritability, and other issues. YOI is the protection that helps us to peacefully handle whatever life may throw at us.”

The claim is backed by scientific studies that have shown that YOI helps consistent practitioners to lower stress levels, sleep better, and aid in treating mental disorders. “We all remember that during the pandemic, so many people suffered from anxiety, depression, and substance abuse disorders,” Ishan says. “We wanted to prove that even though YOI is based on modalities that are thousands of years old, it is 100% backed by modern-day science.”

Working with doctors and psychologists, Ishan and his team studied the effects of YOI on 1,505 participants. “We guided them through a comprehensive, structured, mind-body program and were thrilled by the results.”

Severe insomnia was reduced by 80%, 72% of participants experienced a reduction in depressive symptoms, 75% had a decrease in generalized anxiety, and 77% had an improvement in their quality of life. “As you can imagine, all felt more energy, which made a big difference in their lives and what they were able to do each day,” Ishan says.

Ultimately, Ishan recommends that everyone practice YOI before a stressful event happens. “It can definitely help you in the middle of a crisis, but how much better off would you be if you began practicing it when life is going smoothly?” he asks. “That way, when – not if – life gets messy, you will already have a strong, clear mind that will help you to navigate the unexpected without the usual stress. That is true peace.”

Through the scientifically-backed meditation techniques taught by Ishan Shivanand and Yoga of Immortals, millions are finding relief from anxiety, anger, addictions, and other issues.
