Oprah Winfrey has been one of the most well-known and recognized talk show hosts on television for a long time. As a young woman she attended Emerson College in Boston and later received her law degree from Columbia University.

She met her husband Jim Henson, who was also from Ohio, while they were both attending the University of Oklahoma. Together they founded a company that grew into Muppet Toys and Oprah Productions.

When she became interested in talk shows she auditioned for Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah, which eventually led to a job at a local NBC affiliate in Columbus, Ohio. At this point she began doing telethons to raise money for her college education.

In the beginning, she focused primarily on local Ohio radio stations, but after a year or so, decided to try out for her own talk show. With the help of Henson, she applied for a slot on the Oprah Winfrey Show. The producers liked her application and offered her a spot on the show as an additional writer on the show.

She now resides in New York City and works with multiple productions, including Inside Edition, the View, and also owns a part-time security guard business called Black Sheep. Most recently, she appeared on the E! network show, “Access Hollywood Live.”

Oprah was raised in an African-American neighborhood in Akron, Ohio. She left home at just a few years old to live with her grandparents and attend private school.

After starting her media career, she took time off from it to start a family. After a few years off, she returned to work full-time and created a business around her late father. It is believed that if she had returned to work a few years earlier, she would have become a millionaire.

If you are interested in learning more about Oprah Winfrey, her accomplishments, and what her daily life is like, I highly recommend that you learn more about her through her official website, and read the books by her that are available from Amazon. You will also be able to hear her podcast as well as watch her full-length documentary, “The Life You Want: My Decade of Hope.”
