The Path of Heaven: Book Review

In the book, The Path of Heaven, Khalid’s father tells him about a secret that may influence Khalid’s destiny and gives him two choices. Choose the choice of being an air force pilot and growing to be a charismatic leader or to be a merchant seaman serving under the Indian Ocean fleet. With these choices in mind, he decides to find his path, even if it means going through some of the most chaotic events and also engaging in some dangers along the way.

Kubra is not only shown to be crazy, but also a polarizing figure, albeit a very young one. To those who admire him, he is someone to look up to. However, to those who hate him, he is someone who doesn’t care about his actions. On the outside he is seen as a schoolboy but on the inside he is an evil psychopath.

The story of Kubra is really interesting. On the surface, he seems to be something of a loner only. While this may seem to be what makes him different from the rest of the bunch, it is more than that. His calm demeanour and his calm smile may make him appear all fun loving, but beneath that, there are a coldness and venom, which is what separates him from the rest of the boys.

During his childhood, he was prone to mood swings and his facial expressions told what was going on inside him. He had become very famous in his village for having the largest collection of the skulls of his enemies. It was a homely status and the attention brought by being famous, fueled the birth of a bad boy, which helped to build the world around him.

As a boy, Kubra only sought the admiration of his peers. But as he grew older, he began to seek out things like power and destruction, thus making him a name to behold. Because of his little-known deeds, Kubra was eventually elected as a consultant to the world’s population. He used his power to influence the majority, eventually convincing them to help him enforce a peace treaty which resulted in the destruction of many areas in the Indian Ocean.

Even though he has a face of a child, Kubra’s heart and soul are most definitely an adult. I think, at the end of the day, his journey is about helping other children. His actions are meant to teach others that there is no better place to live than with love and peace. He is willing to do whatever it takes to help others achieve their dreams and goals.
