Police say the boy died at the scene while the girl, 14, is in hospital with critical injuries.

A 15-year-old boy from Pontypool has died after falling at a quarry.

A 14 year-old girl from the Blaenavon area sustained critical injuries and was taken by air ambulance to University Hospital Wales in Cardiff.

The incident took place on Limekiln Road, Abersychan near Pontypool, on Wednesday evening.

Gwent Police confirmed the boy was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said they were called at 18:30 BST.

South Wales Fire & Rescue Service confirmed they had sent two fire crews to the scene.

One resident reported seeing someone winched onboard the air ambulance that had been hovering near Abersychan.
