While it might seem obvious that the hottest shows of the year have been topping the ratings for years, it’s an equally obvious fact that there’s little or no consistency in the most popular TV shows. If you’re looking for the next big show that’s about to make its mark on American culture, try to keep an eye on ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox.

Hollywood is arguably the most dominant force in the media industry and a host of movies, programs, and even internet services are directly linked to this phenomenon. It’s probably safe to say that many of these shows are likely to be coming back to television in the future. Below, we’ve put together some of the hottest shows of 2020.

Sports fans are ready for another round of NBA All-Star events. After a six-year hiatus and rumors of tampering among players, the All-Star Game returns to NBA programming in January. With the addition of Michael Jordan to the team, a host of former stars will be on hand to help select the best players from all over the world. The game will also take place in Los Angeles and come with some hefty billing – but when you consider how much TV viewers love their sports these days, it’s not a huge surprise.

This latest Halo team shooter may not sound like a home run when you first read the title, but if you take a closer look at the buzz around the game, you’ll find the hype is legit. Halo 5: Guardians was released earlier this year and soon reached over one million sales within just three days. A lot of people out there who might have otherwise never picked up a controller want more, and now they’ll be able to play the Halo universe on Xbox Live. With that kind of popularity, there’s no telling what could happen to the game.

The Halo franchise is huge in the gaming world, but it’s far from the only thing going on in the space. The long-awaited Halo Wars 2 has its own fan base that wants more of the same. It’s a sequel that picks up with the events of the first game, so that means that you’re going to need to jump right into the game to see all the changes that have taken place since the last time you played. It’s a great example of what can happen when something old works its way into the new and proves to be extremely popular with people who didn’t even know it existed until the fans clamored for more.

Meanwhile, another new superhero franchise has entered the scene – this one built around a superpowered dog. This new concept is an obvious hit with fans of various other cartoon shows, so it makes sense that Super Hero Dog would follow suit. The show is actually in its second season and already has surpassed two million viewers.

After a lengthy absence, people are once again talking about Lord of the Rings: The Dark Lord. Set in Middle Earth, the adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved fantasy series brings back Ian McKellen and Billy Boyd as Gandalf and Saruman, as well as Tom Hollander and Taron Egerton as Radagast and Saruman respectively. While Lord of the Rings isn’t anywhere near as popular as it was in the early nineties, it’s still one of the most popular things on television and one of the most famous movie franchises ever created.

As is often the case, shows that have been absent from television for quite some time, and which are set in a completely different region, continue to draw significant audiences and critical acclaim. This might be one of those shows.
