The teenager got into difficulty in Northumberland on Sunday, police say.
A 13-year-old boy has died after going missing in the River Tyne in Northumberland.
Emergency services were alerted at about 16:15 BST on Sunday following the incident near Ovingham.
Rescuers launched a search operation and Northumbria Police have now confirmed a body has been found in the water.
The youngster’s family have been informed and they are being supported by specialist family liaison officers.
Det Ch Insp Martin Brooks described the outcome as “absolutely tragic”.
He said: “Sadly, after extensive searches carried out in the river yesterday afternoon and evening, a body has been found and we believe it to be the male who was reported missing.
“Our thoughts go out to the male’s family and friends at this devastating time and I would ask that their privacy is respected as they attempt to come to terms with what has happened.”
Officers on Sunday appealed for members of the public not to gather in the area in order to allow search teams to carry out their duties.
