A man has been arrested after one woman died and another suffered life-threatening injuries in Worcester.

The woman who died at the address in Haresfield Close has been named as 61-year-old Wendy Francis.

Paying tribute, her family said in a statement: “Wendy will be hugely missed; she was one in a million and much-loved.”

A 50-year-old man remains in custody on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, West Mercia Police said.

Emergency services went to the property about 20:30 GMT on Saturday.

A 38-year-old woman was found with life-threatening injuries and taken to hospital, police said.

Releasing a photo of Ms Francis, officers said: “Although formal identification has yet to take place, with permission of the family we are able to confirm that Wendy Francis, aged 61, sadly lost her life in an incident which is being investigated by West Mercia Police.

“The family have asked that their privacy is respected now.”

Det Ch Insp Leighton Harding, from the force’s murder investigation unit, said earlier its thoughts were with the family.

“I understand that incidents of this nature can be alarming, but I would like to reassure the local community that this was an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public.”

He said there would be a higher police presence in the area in the coming days as officers investigated.
