In legal terms, mesothelioma is a disease that is caused by the inhalation and repeated exposure to asbestos. Mesothelioma is the most common of all malignancies that have been diagnosed and which accounts for a large number of deaths around the world every year. The disease occurs mainly in the pleura, the covering of the lungs that includes the lining of the cavity and the walls. The disease takes as long as thirty years to develop and during this period of time, symptoms such as persistent chest and abdominal pain, weight loss, coughing, chest tightness and breathlessness occur.

Other mesothelioma causes include genetic changes in the cells that line the pleura that affect the development of tumors. Some experts believe that genetic changes in the cells occur when there is an overproduction of some of the cells called internal fibers. When these internal fibers are produced too much, they are unable to be able to cover the pleura and become part of the pulmonary fibrosis. Overproduction can affect the lining of the lungs, the control of blood pressure, and also cause scarring and the growth of plaques in the lung tissue.

As with the other mesothelioma causes, treatment options are very much dependent on the diagnosis and the severity of the disease. One of the major treatments used involves the use of chemotherapy or radiation therapy. This treatment option involves the use of drugs to kill cancer cells while at the same time reducing the size of the tumor. Although treatment options can be very effective for some patients, there are still chances for the cancer cells to regrow. Therefore, it is highly important that the patient not only undergoes a regular checkup but undergo regular pain management as well.

If mesothelioma causes are due to genetic mutations, then there is a chance that the asbestos exposure might have been the root cause. If so, then the best course of action is to find a way to reverse the genetic mutations. Treatment options may include radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy which all use medications to boost the immune system to combat against the newly formed cancerous cells.

Other mesothelioma causes include exposure to certain chemicals which either become airborne and inhaled or ingested. Some of these chemicals are very dangerous and cause short-term illnesses. However, some can cause more serious conditions including mesothelioma causes due to inhalation. Inhaled asbestos fibers can become lodged in the lungs and can lead to obstruction in the airways, leading to respiratory symptoms and eventually to mesothelioma causes.

The third type of mesothelioma cause is due to DNA damage. DNA is essential for cell division and repair, so the destruction of this vital DNA is one of the main causes of cancer. The most common cause of DNA damage is lung cancer, which destroys the lung’s mesothelial cells. This can occur when asbestos fibers are inhaled or ingested into the body. People who have had exposure to many different asbestos products can also suffer from this disease, as this is a chance of inherited DNA damage.
