When it comes to workplace attire, the term “business casual” seems to be employed so frequently that most of us stop and think: what does that mean? And is it really different from your everyday work outfit? We’ll explore the two definitions of business casual here.
Most of us wear a uniform or formal dress when we are doing any work-related activity such as office tasks or similar. It is the job we are assigned, not how we dress, and it makes no difference whether we wear pants, a suit, a tie, or an open-neck t-shirt. A person should choose their professional outfits based on the environment and the tasks that need to be performed at the place of work. Having said that, some job assignments call for more formal dress, and others for more casual work wear.
Business casual clothing refers to the clothes we wear to conduct our day-to-day activities at the workplace. That includes wearing a dress shirt and a formal jacket with slacks or other workplace attire. But business casual does not only refer to this attire, but includes a lot of other personal attire.
There are actually various types of business casual business outfits that are available in the market today. These include business casual dresses, business shirts, dress pants, casual polo shirts, casual jeans, etc.
Depending on the nature of the work, some business casual dresses can be worn casually or they can be dressed up to look formal. An example would be the casual shirts you see often in office environments. These clothes, which are considered as casual, are easy to slip on and off when needed, but at the same time, they can also be dressed up to have a more formal look.
Casual polo shirts are also referred to as business casual shirts. Such shirts are very versatile and can be worn with any of your outfits at the workplace. This is important because it allows you to mix up the best look for your workplace even if you are not completely sure what kind of look is appropriate.
Although most people refer to dress pants or t-shirts as casual work wear, it’s not always that simple. One good example of such a dress pant is a khaki or desert dress pant. These are great dresses to wear when you are walking to or from the office or out to lunch with friends.
In case you want to add more flair to your workweek wardrobe, try wearing casual dress pants or dress shirts instead of your usual shirts and ties. While these can definitely add a little bit of color and uniqueness to your overall look, they are still part of a variety of casual workplace wear.
