Mesothelioma Causes and Symptoms
Mesothelioma Causes and Identification: Mesothelioma is a malignant tumor of the mesothelium, a layer of cells that surrounds the abdominal cavity and the peritoneum. It grows at a fast rate and has a spreading tendency which can lead to large areas of the body being affected. Because of this malignancy’s ability to spread, it’s sometimes referred to as “soft tissue sarcoma.”
In very rare cases, the disease can affect internal organs. This usually occurs in areas where lymph nodes are located. Cases have been reported in the small intestine, liver, lungs, heart, and even the bone marrow of the bone. Although rare, some cases have also been linked to exposure to asbestos.
Because there are many symptoms associated with mesothelioma, the majority of cases are diagnosed in the later stages of the disease. Early symptoms include pain and discomfort in the chest, abdomen, or pelvis, which may extend down the back, stomach, and/or thighs. Some symptoms may include lung or abdominal pains, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, bloody stools, fever, weight loss, and others.
The most common diagnosis for the disease is asbestos exposure from the manufacture or long-term use of asbestos. Another cause is exposure to asbestos in industrial settings such as at landfills, mines, and factories. Approximately 60% of cases are attributed to workplace-related exposures.
The condition is thought to be caused by inhalation of dust and particles as well as public exposure to asbestos. It can also be caused by contact with the eyes, nose, and mouth of a person who is developing the cancer. Exposure to asbestos in any form, such as on the skin, in the air, and in the soil can cause cancer.
Because of the effects of the disease, there have been a variety of campaigns designed to prevent its spread, especially in work settings, as well as improve workers’ daily lives. Many of these campaigns include awareness campaigns about the causes and symptoms of mesothelioma. These campaigns can help patients feel more comfortable discussing their concerns about mesothelioma.
Among the mesothelioma causes and its symptoms, concerns about asbestos exposure are on the top of the list. Because of this, employers must provide reasonable protections for employees and their families. Currently, there are a number of regulations and legislation governing asbestos removal and disposal.
Knowing the mesothelioma causes and its symptoms can make people more aware about the condition and how to protect themselves and their loved ones. Since so many people are exposed to asbestos every day in their workplaces, a well-informed populace is necessary to ensure that these illnesses are not overlooked.
