Priyank Chopra on the Concept of Spiritual Life

In the early nineties, Priyank Chopra was a student of science and philosophy. He is presently the director of the Center for Spirituality & the mind in Michigan and the creator of a popular television show on spirituality, The Secret. One thing he has to say about spirituality is, “Religion is a very small piece of our larger universe.”

Consciousness and spiritual quest is an important theme in his writing. A popular aphorism, “you have to know where you’re going before you can arrive,” is taken from Chopra’s work.

As a science writer, Chopra has been working on the topic of consciousness for decades, as a student of the natural sciences of psychology and neurology. It was in these fields that he noticed that people all around the world showed a common pattern of experience.

In those experiences of conscious awareness, he says, one person’s mystic experience was another person’s Buddhist meditation session. And so with science and religion.

He talks about the mysterious flow of energy through our lives and how it supports our human life support system. He mentions the energetic signs of aging, growing old, or experience of guilt. A popular metaphysical study is that, “Energy manifests in time, frequency, and space. When experienced, the energy can be visualized as waves, as waves of light, as electricity, or as a movement.

In an interview with Anna Pappas he explains that he uses the sacred, written language of Sanskrit, because of its content and accuracy. The spoken English language simply isn’t capable of conveying the spirituality of Sanskrit. In fact, the spoken language of any world religion (Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, etc.) is usually totally lacking in any real spirituality, because most people cannot read the Divine Name in its proper order.

His teaching in New York is called the Yoga Teacher Training Institute. From that institution he has taught many people who follow his teachings and experience that they too have increased levels of happiness and freedom of their spiritual existence. He has studied the realm of modern science to offer up his insights about our perception of the “spiritual.”
